Burlington -- Queen City Park Road Paving, beginning 10/14

Please click here to acknowledge receipt of this message

Paving operations on Queen City Park Rd are scheduled to begin in Burlington as early as tomorrow Wednesday October 14th and last for up to 4 weeks. There will be impacts to travel throughout this project, including slower travel times. Please pay attention to on-street signage and any instructions from on-site crews. See below for the community message we are distributing.

---
On October 5th, Board of Finance and City Council approved our contract to have Queen City Park Road fully repaved from Home/Austin to the bridge. Our contractor has mobilized quickly and will begin the work this week to ensure the paving can be completed before the snow flies.

***DETAILS***
Milling operations (shaving down existing asphalt) will begin as early as tomorrow, followed by structural adjustments and then starting the week of 10/19 we will reclaim (rebuilding, shaping and grading) the road. The project is expected to last up to 4 weeks.

The road will be closed to through traffic, allowing local traffic with flaggers from either direction; the only exception to this is when work occurs between the bridge and Central Ave where traffic may be limited to one lane one way. This will impact the residents of South Burlington who live off of Central Ave or recreation users of Red Rocks.

When the road is complete there will be a new striping pattern that will use advisory lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. The City is still evaluating the feasibility and costs associated with separated pedestrian facilities on this street and is unable to install a sidewalk at this time. Advisory lanes are marked with a dashed white line, indicating that people can drive over the advisory lane when needing to yield to oncoming motor vehicle traffic. These markings may be used on streets that have a higher volume of traffic than neighborhood streets, but less traffic than major roadways. These lanes give people biking walking - a space to do so, while leaving space available for motorists to pass oncoming traffic. Learn more about advisory lanes here: https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/DPW/AdvisoryLanes.

***QUESTIONS?***
The City has procured a full time on site inspector who will work to coordinate any driveway, resident, or business access issues that come up during the work. Questions can also be directed to the paving program at DPW by calling 802-863-9094 or by emailing dpw-pinecustomerservice@burlingtonvt.gov.
